The French House collection consists of three scrapbooks of photographs, clippings, and other papers documenting the history of the house compiled by Gertrude M. Beauford between 1974 and 1991. The first volume includes a history of the French House as related by Anita Olivier Morrison, head resident of the house between 1935 and 1958. The collection also contains cassette tapes of four oral history interviews with Morrison conducted by Beauford between 1972 and 1974. Transcripts of the four interviews are included in the scrapbooks.

The French House (La Maison Française) at Louisiana State University was built in the style of a Renaissance-style Normandy château. It opened in September 1935 to house selected advanced French-language students to live immersed in French language and culture. It served that purpose until 1959 when it became a dormitory for graduate students, then undergraduates, before its closure in 1968.
